Carl Cox selects his top ten tracks from his Awesome Soundwave label as he heads towards the end of his UK tour

CARL COX is coming to the end of his UK tour next weekend with shows in Maidstone, Manchester and Glasgow.

Ahead of the final weekend of the tour, the iconic DJ touches down in London for his only show in the capital this year at The Drumsheds this Saturday night.

Having kept the world entertained from his studio in Melbourne during the pandemic with his Cabin Fever Sessions, Carl hit the ground running post lockdown with his UK tour this summer and also with his electrifying memoir Oh yes, oh yes! which hit the book stands last month.

We caught up with Carl this week and asked him to talk us through the top ten tracks that are rocking his label Awesome Soundwave at the moment, the label he runs with his friend Christopher Coe. Listen and read what he had to say about the music below.

Hybrasil – Dezik

"I play this a load in my sets as it just works so nicely! It is proper techno, no frills and punchy! Hybrasil's album is on it's way too.. you are going to love it!"

Saytek – Isolation (Live)

"One of my favourite live artists again because he just goes there, straight to the techno, no messing 'round! This one is from his new album "Motifs from the New World" which drops September 24 on ASW!"

Hannes Bieger – Poem For The Planet (featuring Ursula Rucker)

"Hannes work just sounds so wonderful! His production is amazing and this track is timeless and so relevant now! Having the legendary poet Ursula Rucker on this was a coup!"

Julien Chaptal – Use Your Mind

"Such a funky tune from Julien, again, great production and his album on ASW is incredible. So many great tunes! And a great live artist, really dynamic and solid!"

An On Bast – Back To The Garden

"Anna is a really special and talented live artist and her album "I Create as I Speak" with 18 brilliant tracks on it really shows the diversity of her work. Quality!"

Honeysmack – Entity

"The doctor of Acid, Honeysmack, just rocks it live and all his tracks are entirely improvised! He recorded his album in one day at my studio and then cut up the session and made tracks out of it.. Entity is a favourite and one that we are going to release remixes of from the legendary MSTRKRFT and CJ Bolland soon!"

Digital Afrika – Mid Life Focus

"These boys have really got something special. The minute I first heard their music I knew we had to have them join the label! they have a great new EP coming up with remixes from Jose Marquez and TEYMORI and soon we will release their album. I love their live shows with Karen Bravo dancing and all the organic percussion!"

Charlie Thorstenson – Stream

"Charlie is such a talented sonic explorer! His album "Kretsloop" is deeeeeep and I just love how he creates his sounds and rhythms. It's surprising and fresh and I love it!"

Christopher Coe – Headland

"My man Christopher who runs the label with me and is such a talented artist in his own right. This track was the first thing we released on the label, ahead of his amazing album MNTNS of SLNC. And it's deep rumbling techno vibe really captured what he was about. The album set the benchmark for where we go from there. When he came to me with this album and the story of how he climbed the mountains in Ireland and wrote techno inspired by that landscape and was creating a whole new live show around it, I was captivated by the whole concept. It was because of this I decided that we should start this label. This album was the beginning."

Mat Playford – Kic 8462852

"Mat is a truly talented genius, when he's not growing chillies he is making great works of musical awesomeness! His album "Solar" was the 2nd album on the label and one that is just choc-full of melodies and grooves that really are timeless too. We love Mat's work and can't wait to hear his latest stuff. I think he's been busy harvesting his chillies of late though, so we have to wait a bit. I'm sure it will be worth it!"
