Canadian mansion where Leonardo DiCaprio stayed is up for auction

Fans of The Revenant will be keen on this seven-bedroom mansion located just west of Calgary, Alberta.

No, it doesn’t come complete with a bear, but it’s the property where Leonardo DiCaprio spent several months while filming the 2015 movie for which he finally won an Oscar.

The home also has another Hollywood tie, having appeared on-screen in an episode of Fargo.

Now, the property is up for auction, with a starting price tag of $6.6million.

Beyond its celebrity connections, the home is pretty special.

It’s set on two acres of land, offering views of the Rocky Mountains, and is just 20 minutes from downtown Calgary.

It’s the perfect spot for those who love to ski, as it’s within driving distance of some major snow sports resorts.

Fancy features include a gym, a basketball court, a wine cellar, a home cinema, and a 25-metre long swimming pool.

Offering 15,382 square foot of space, the mansion has seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms. So yes, you could split it with a big group of pals, unless you need that many rooms all to yourself.

The interiors are all rustic and cosy, but grand, with multiple fireplaces, hardwood floors, high coffered ceilings, and hand-crafted Venetian plaster walls.

Enter on the ground floor and you’ll find the open-plan kitchen with marble counter tops, a butler’s pantry, a copper sink, and two large islands.

This leads into one of multiple reception rooms, and elsewhere on this floor there’s a laundry room and dining space.

Go up and you’ll find the bedrooms, bathrooms, and some home office spaces.

There’s a master wing, which has a sitting room with a fireplace, a striking custom-built headboard, a spa bath with a freestanding tub, his and hers vanities, and custom dressing rooms. Fancy.

Plus, the property has a dedicated crafting room (for kids or artsy types), a games room with its own bar, and a wine cellar with its own tasting room.

Outdoors, there’s a courtyard patio with a barbecue and fire pit, as well as a sports court, a large lawn, and plenty of trees.

Bidding on the property will start on January 22 and run through January 27.

The start price will be $6.6 million USD, but it could end up going for much more.
