Call the Midwife finished its tenth season in the spring so viewers have been waiting quite some time for the return of those at Nonnatus House. The heartwarming BBC One series is going to round off 2021 before season 11 begins in the New Year. Here’s everything you need to know about the cast of the Call the Midwife Christmas Special.

Who stars in the Call the Midwife Christmas special?

Sister Mildred – Miriam Margolyes

Reprising her role as the lovable Sister Mildred is actress Miriam Margolyes.

She has been in numerous television shows and films over the years including the Harry Potter franchise, The Real Marigold Hotel, Babe, Ladies in Lavender and Little Shop of Horrors.

Sadly, Margolyes was absent from season 10 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

COVID-19 travel restrictions meant she was prevented from coming back to the UK for filming.

Trixie Franklin – Helen George

Original cast member Helen George will be starring in the festive episode as Trixie Franklin.

Fans may remember that she briefly stepped away from the show to take on a new challenge in the form of Strictly Come Dancing in 2015.

She was partnered with Aljaž Skorjanec and finished in sixth place.

George won’t be in the entirety of season 11 as she took some time off before her second baby with former Call the Midwife star Jack Ashton arrived.

Doctor Patrick Turner – Stephen McGann

Doctor Patrick Turner is going to have his hands full in the Christmas special as he takes his son Timothy Turner (played by Max Macmillan) along with him on a job which, worryingly, is to see some gangsters.

Patrick is played by actor Stephen McGann who has also starred in the medical drama from the very beginning.

Prior to the BBC One series, he had been in Casualty, Doctors, The Hanging Gale, Streetwise and Strauss Dynasty.

For a couple of years in the early noughties, McGann portrayed Sean Reynolds in Emmerdale.

Elliot was also in the Black Mirror episode Hated in the Nation on Netflix.

Sister Julienne – Jenny Agutter

As the Sister in charge of Nonnatus House and a mother figure to them all is Sister Julienne.

Actress Jenny Agutter has been in Captain America: Winter Soldier, The Alan Clark Diaries, Spooks, And The Beat Goes On and film Sometimes Always Never.
