Since Below Deck Mediterranean first aired on Bravo in 2016, each season has been filled with unexpected jaw-dropping moments. With never-ending drama onboard the yachts, viewers are guaranteed entertainment. However, the show’s producers revealed the moments they were left unhappy after a shocking discovery.
In an interview with Bravo, executive producers Mark Cronin and Courtland Cox shared insight and some behind the scenes secrets.
Throughout the nine seasons of Below Deck had been on air, one of the most shocking moments happened in season two.
Viewers were left gobsmacked when they learned Chef Adam Glick and deckhand Malia White boarded the yacht as a couple.
Both Mark and Courtland revealed they too were blinded by the two and found out the same time as the audience.
They shared: “Well, we weren’t happy about it. We were like, ‘What? This is terrible. We didn’t know this.’ We didn’t understand what their conversations meant.”
Mark recalled: “But this always happens on Below Deck. If you find out something late, you can go back and look at what you have in the footage and find those moments.”
Both Malia and Adam had staff and viewers completely fooled as they featured on the episodes after appearing to meet each other on-air for the very first time.
This stirred even more problems after Malia began having feelings for Wes Walton.
This discovery angered Adam who decided to do the unexpected and break the fourth wall by sharing he and Malia knew each other long before the series had begun filming.
Another producer Nadia Rajabi detailed to BravoCon when she first grew suspicious of the couple after overhearing a suspicious conversion.
She shared: “All of a sudden, I hear Adam say, ‘What about Santorini? What about all this stuff?”
She explained: “And I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, a person who just met another human being like a week-and-a-half ago would not be talking about these elaborate trips unless he wants to wear her skin to his birthday party. He’s not that crazy.’ I’m like, ‘They know each other.’”
Before receiving any confirmation from the couple Nadia first confronted them and candidly asked if they were together.
To which they denied the claims, however, Nadia’s gut was saying otherwise: “So I didn’t trust her, so I put a camera up in the bridge, which is where they do their anchor watch.
“So we put on a GoPro before I left the boat, and we planted a mic, and we saw Malia and Wes kiss,” she remarked.
It was this footage that caused Adam to break the fourth wall, Nadia concluded: “I was like, ‘I knew it!’ I was so disappointed in Malia for not telling me the truth.”
This huge secret changed the course of Below Deck Mediterranean forever, as it forced producers to introduce more cameras into the yacht.
The show went from having 12 cameras to having 18, filming footage 24 hours a day, hoping to get the best bits for the show.
With season six well-underway fans can look forward to more drama from crew members aboard the yacht each week
Below Deck Mediterranean will return in 2022, with an estimated release date in the summer.
