GB News chairman Andrew Neil was overcome with emotion during his appearance on Wednesday's episode of This Morning.

The 72-year-old journalist appeared on the famous blue sofa alongside Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield to discuss the latest news headlines.

Royal Editor Camilla Tominey also joined in the conversation via a video link from her office.

As the segment drew to a close, Andrew broke down in tears as he thanked Holly and Phillip for being "so kind" and "wonderful" to him.

Viewers at home were surprised to see Andrew in tears and rushed to social media to discuss his emotional television appearance.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "Andrew Neil, how emotional was that , totally unexpected."

Another added: "Andrew Neil getting all emosh. Quivering bottom lip and everything."

A third person posted: "Have I missed something? Why was Andrew Neil crying?"

While a fourth social media user said: "Andrew Neil crying. I didn't expect that."

Holly said to Andrew: "See you can be a softy" before the show went to an advert break.

Ahead of the This Morning View segment, Phillip pointed out that it was the first time Andrew had been in the studio for over a year.

The former newspaper editor has been appearing on the ITV daytime show via a video link due to strict coronavirus restrictions.

Phillip, 59, also added that it may be Andrew's last time on the show as his new channel GB News launches this weekend.

Andrew's new channel GB News kicks off on Sunday June 13 and will not provide rolling news, but instead is expected to be a mix of news, opinion, and debate.

Phil asked about presenters and quickly asked if former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan will be part of the launch.

Andrew confirmed that Piers, 56, would not be involved but didn't rule out that the outspoken presenter would join the team in the future.

In a recent interview with Radio Times, Andrew said he's had "good conversations" with Piers.

He explained: ""Yes, we have had conversations, but not about breakfast.

"All my indications are that Piers doesn’t want another breakfast show. But I think if he does any more British news TV it’s more likely to be with us than with anybody else.

"We’re in good discussions, we continue to stay in touch and he knows that we feel that he would be a great addition to the line-up."
