America's Got Talent star Jay Jay Phillips dies aged 30 of Covid-19

America’s Got Talent star Jay Jay Phillips has died at the age of 30 after contracting Covid-19.

Phillips’ family confirmed the news to TMZ, telling the outlet that the rocker battled the virus just before the Thanksgiving holiday.

The site reports that his family urged him to go to the hospital, but that he told them he just needed more sleep.

He reportedly did not have his Covid vaccine but was planning to get it.

America’s Got Talent wrote in a statement: ‘Our AGT family is saddened to learn about the passing of Jay Jay Phillips.

‘Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends’.

Phillips first appeared on AGT in season four in 2009 and but was eliminated early. He was a student at the time of his first audition.

Not disheartened, he returned in season 12 in 2017, eight years after his initial audition.

He made it through the first round but was eliminated just before the quarter-finals.

For his audition in season 12, Phillips quickly won over the audience, rocking out with a keyboard.

Judges Howie Mandel, Mel B, and Simon Cowell all voted for him to go through to the next round.

Aside from AGT, the star also formed part of the band METTAL MAFFIA with his final Instagram post being a photo of the group.

In the caption, shared seven weeks ago, he wrote: ‘I’m 50 million more times exited about this than the whole AGT thing and i’m so grateful to rock out with my brothers and sister and dude I love this band and them so much it’s rediculous [sic].’
