‘World of difference between’ Harry and William’s cards as Sussexes emphasise privacy

Meghan Markle and Harry: Dickie Arbiter discusses privacy

Meghan and Harry posed with their son Archie in the garden of their Montecito home, bought for £14m. Playing in a Wendy house, the pair both gaze at their son lovingly. It comes a week after Kate Middleton and William posted their own card.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s card stars the couple and their three children, Prince George, seven, Princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis.

It was taken in a rustic setting at their country home Anmer Hall. The family huddle close and smile at the camera wearing cosy autumnal colours.

Body language expert Judi James compared both cards for Express.co.uk. She said: “There is a sense of like-minded Christmas sentiments from both Harry and William this year as both opt for a card that promotes rustic, un-regal styling with the emphasis on casual dress and family values.”

However, she claimed, this the only similarity in the cards.

Judi went on: “Despite the promotion of a tight family unit there is a world of difference between the social sentiments of Harry and Meghan and William and Kate’s Christmas cards though.

“The Cambridges chose a pose where all five of them are looking straight into the camera and smiling,” she explained.

“This is a ‘hosting’ pose that involved direct communication with its audience.

“The wishes inside the card will feel aimed directly at the recipient as a result.

“Harry and Meghan, in contrast, are allowing us a peek at their world from a distance, though.

“Their lack of eye contact suggests they are lost in the moment and barely aware of the camera.

“There is no attempt to communicate directly or ‘speak’ to us, just the revealing of a very loving-looking moment.”

Judi drew some comparisons between Harry and his father in the younger son’s Christmas card.

“This lack of direct connection makes Harry’s Christmas pose much more like his father’s,” Judi said.

“Charles and Camilla posed off-season in a rustic garden setting and the way Charles chose to avoid the camera with his eyes created the sense of a glimpsed but un-shared moment between him and the public.

“William, Kate and their children all look as though they’re trying to share Christmas with us while Charles, Harry and Meghan look far keener on their moment of privacy.”

Meghan and Harry’s Christmas card was taken by the former actress’s mother Doria, a social worker and yoga instructor.

Kate and William’s was taken by photographer Matt Porteous.

It saw the family sit close together, with Charlotte on her mother’s lap.

Charlotte also wore a pair of Mini-Me Midcalf Tassel Boots by Penelope Chilvers, just like a favourite pair of Kate’s.

The Duchess herself wore the Marguerite Blouse by Sezane.
