Will Meghan Markle finally be allowed to wear the Queen’s jewellery like Kate after ‘ban’?

Earlier this year, rumours began to swirl that the Queen had banned her granddaughter in-law, Meghan Markle, from wearing her jewellery.

According to reports, the Duchess of Sussex – who married Prince Harry last year in May – is not permitted to wear items from the royal collection, including an iconic tiara which was once worn by Harry’s late mother Princess Diana.

The Queen is said to have assured William, the heir to the British throne, that Meghan will not wear any pieces worn by his mother.

Appearing on Lorraine, The Sun journalist Dan Wootton discussed the story, explaining: “The Queen is in charge of the royal collection, a massive collection of all of the artefacts that the country and the Royal Family own.”

He added: “Included in that are some iconic prices of jewellery, many of which have been leant to Princess Diana.”

However, unlike Meghan, Kate Middleton – who has been married to Harry’s older brother Prince William for eight years – is allowed to wear such pieces.

Dan added: “We’ve seen Kate wear certain items from the royal collection.

“The Queen has to give permission for any member of the Royal Family to wear any of these items of jewellery.”

Kate has worn royal tiara’s at state dinners in the UK and abroad. But while Meghan has been at various state events on her two previous royal tours, she was notably without a tiara.

So will Meghan ever be allowed to wear the Queen’s jewels?

While the Royal Family are yet to confirm these reports, senior royal sources insist that Meghan is in fact allowed to wear pieces from the collection.

“The Duchess has worn pieces from the Royal Collection before so why would that stop now?” one source told Vanity Fair, adding that Meghan wore the Queen Mary diamond bandeau from the collection on her wedding day.

As well as this, Meghan has also worn several pieces of Princess Diana’s jewellery, including a pair of butterfly earrings and a gold bracelet.

Two diamonds once owned by the late princess also form part of the 38-year-old’s engagement ring.

Last week, Meghan was spotted wearing Diana’s earrings and a bracelet as she made her return to work to launch her high street clothing collection.

The royal opted for clothes from her collection for the launch, but she added a sentimental twist to the look.

Paying tribute to Princess Diana – who she never got to meet – the Duchess of Sussex wore a pair of butterfly earrings and a gold bracelet which belonged to Prince Harry’s mum.

She also sported a gold and blue stone bangle on her wrist – another item from Diana’s personal collection.

Princess Diana was seen wearing the bracelet as she greeted Nellie Corbett during her visit to the Lord Gage Centre in Newham, in 1990.

The butterfly earrings were worn by Princess Diana during a tour of Canada with Prince Charles in 1986.

Meghan has worn these previously, sporting them during her own royal tour with Prince Harry, when the duo visited Fiji.
