Kevin Costner filed a response after being “stunned” by his wife, Christine Baumgartner, going to court to end their 18-year marriage.
The “Yellowstone” star requested joint custody of the estranged couple’s three children together — Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12 — in documents filed Tuesday by his attorney, Laura Wasser.
Costner’s response came after Baumgartner filed for divorce Monday.
The designer, who was photographed without her wedding ring Wednesday, cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split and also requested joint custody of the kids.
“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” the actor’s rep said in a statement Tuesday.
A source told Page Six exclusively Wednesday that Costner, 68, was “very surprised” by his 49-year-old wife’s “actions,” adding, “He obviously doesn’t want the divorce, and he would take her back.”
The insider also said that the “Bodyguard” star finds the separation “disappointing” since he still “loves [Baumgartner] and he loves his children.”

Costner has also faced a slew of cheating accusations over the last few days.
However, our source denied that was the cause of the divorce, emphasizing, “There was no issue of cheating at all.”
The Oscar winner was photographed smiling and wearing his ring Sunday, just one day before Baumgartner requested the dissolution of their marriage.
The estranged couple tied the knot in 2004. Prior to Baumgartner, Costner was in a relationship with Bridget Rooney. The two share a son, Liam, 27.
The “Dances with Wolves” star was previously married to his college sweetheart, Cindy Silva, for 16 years, but they split in 1994. The exes have three kids together: Annie, 39, Lily, 36, and Joe, 35.
