Major supermarket is selling Easter eggs made entirely of CHEESE – and shoppers are divided | The Sun

A MAJOR supermarket is selling Easter eggs made entirely out of CHEESE.

It might not be the treat some shoppers are looking for this Easter Sunday.

Morrisons is selling handmade cheese Easter eggs for £5 each.

There's two options available in-store and online from tomorrow, March 29:

  • Lancashire and Cheddar
  • Stratford Blue Soft Cheese

They'll be available across all stores in the UK and those part of the My Morrisons reward scheme can bag one for £4.

It's perfect for those with a savoury tooth, but not quite for others expecting to eat chocolate this Easter.

The supermarket says the Stratford Blue egg has a "a soft and tangy flavour" while the Lancashire and Cheddar version is creamier.

Andrew Thomas, buying manager, cheese at Morrisons said: “We’re continuously looking for ways to make Easter moments fun and exciting for our customers and we’re thrilled to unveil a real unique twist on a true classic.”

Remember to factor in delivery costs if you're ordering online – Morrisons charges at least £4.15 but if you buy a delivery pass it could save you up to £176 if you order regularly.

We couldn't find any similar eggs from high street shops or supermarkets, so Morrisons is the place to go if cheese is your thing.

M&S did cheese Easter eggs in 2020, complete with a yolk in the centre.

They were made out of Barber's Farmhouse Cheddar and a vintage 18-month matured Red Leicester "yolk".

They were mini, so they came in packs of six. It would've set you back £8.50 for a box.

In 2019 Sainsbury's sold an Easter egg made from spreadable cheese. The "cheaster" egg contained 120g of cheese, a packet of oat cakes, and a sachet of chutney for £5.

And in 2018 Asda sold its "cheester" egg. Half of the egg was made from Blacksticks blue cheese and half was crackers and chutney.

There's even been a chocolate and cheese hybrid before, which Iceland sold in 2017 for £3.

At the moment Morrisons is selling normal chocolate eggs from its The Best range like its Belgian Dark Chocolate & Raspberry Egg, Belgian Chocolate & Orange Egg and White & Blonde Chocolate Egg all for £6 each, so don't panic if you only like the classics.

You can also snatch up branded favourites like a Galaxy Milk Chocolate egg or a Kitkat Bunny Giant Easter Egg for £3.99 each.

Always remember to shop around when you start your egg hunt this Easter – you never know what deals are on.
