Hitting the carpet in a bikini.
During fashion’s biggest night, Janelle Monáe hit the red carpet for the 2023 Met Gala sporting a sparkling two-piece set.
As the singer-turned-actress exposed their curves, they carried a hoop skirt around their head which then draped over their body to transform into a dress.
Monáe — who is non-binary and uses both she/her and they/them pronouns — topped off the new look with an oversized black and white coat and a cat-shaped purse.
The star, 37, previously teased the transforming Thom Browne look to People, describing it as both a “surprise” and “an experience that I’ve put together.”
“I go as an art student,” they added to the outlet of the fashion-filled night. “You have an assignment. This is the theme. And me and my team are literally like art students collaborating on a group project, and we’re there.”

The “Glass Onion” star also has a special connection to this year’s “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” theme, however, having made her Met debut in 2011 with Lagerfeld himself as a date.
“I went with Karl, so this is sort of full circle for us to be honoring him. I’m really excited about what we’ll do,” she told the outlet of the night, where she sported a crisp white Chanel skirt and black trousers.
Monae’s no stranger to donning show-stopping designs on the Met steps, as their previous looks have ranged from a sparkly hooded Ralph Lauren dress for the “Gilded Glamour” theme in 2021 to a Christian Siriano gown complete with a motorized blinking eye for the camp-themed 2019 gala.
Just call the latest look another eye-catching outfit.
