Jack Grealish and Shane Duffy feature in WhoScoreds Premier League Team of the Month
WITH the international break upon us, now is a good time to reflect upon the best performers during the month of August.
As you are probably aware, our friends at WhoScored provide Dream Team’s match ratings and Star Man awards, using their stats-based algorithm to ensure complete objectivity.
They’ve crunched the numbers for the first month of the season and churned out the best Premier League XI based on highest average ratings (minimum three appearances).
As is logical, there’s a lot of overlap between WhoScored’s best players and the most successful Dream Team assets…
Hugo Lloris (£4.0m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£4.9m) and Marcos Alonso (£3.5m) are all the best performers in their respective positions in terms of Dream Team points.
Shane Duffy (£2.7m) has produced 24 unexpected points after bagging TWO Star Man awards while deputising for his injured team-mates.
The Brighton centre-back appears in just 0.6% of teams and has more points than Manchester United trio Luke Shaw (£3.6m), Harry Maguire (£4.1m) and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£3.2m) combined.
As you can see Adama Traore (£2.7m), has the second-highest average rating in the Premier League right now.
His superhuman dribbling tends to tickle the algorithm’s fancy even when his wasteful finishing means he doesn’t quite get the job done on the pitch.
Only David de Gea’s (£2.7m) eye-catching double save prevented the hulking winger from being named Star Man for the third time in consecutive weeks.
As the leading assist-provider in the league it’s no surprise to see Paul Pogba (£4.8m) make the cut – he’s returned 14 points so far and has become significanctly more popular since Game Week 1.
Jack Grealish (£4.5m) is yet take a game by the scruff of the neck in Manchester City colours but he’s ticking along nicely.
Similar to Traore, his dribble-heavy style means he oftens garners favourable ratings.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£5.4m) and Gabriel Jesus (£4.1m) narrowly miss out up top but you can’t argue with the pair who have been included.
It would be a travesty if Michail Antonio (£3.9m) doesn’t win Premier League Player of the Month having scored four goals and provided three assists.
Mason Greenwood’s (£4.0m) clutch goals against Southampton and Wolves have ensured a promising start to the season for the Red Devils even if their performances in those games weren’t on par with their thrashing of Leeds.
The 19-year-old can count himself unlucky not to be part of the England squad this week but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be over the moon with his efforts so far.
