St James's Palace was built in the 1530s, by order of Henry VIII, and most of the original architecture of the red brick palace still remains today.

The palace boasts its own chapel, Chapel Royal, where numerous functions take place each year. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's youngest child, Prince Louis, three, was christened at the chapel in 2018.

Weeks before she married Prince Harry, Meghan Markle was also christened at the Chapel Royal, which is located in the main block of the palace.

Inside the immediate complex is York House, where Prince Charles, 73, previously resided with his sons, Prince Harry, 37, and Prince William, 39.

There is also Lancaster House, which is mainly used by the Government for official receptions and events.

Several official photographs have been taken inside the palace over the years, showing the downstairs reception areas to have bright red walls and burgundy patterned carpets.

The space features matching curtains complete with gold ties, and there's dozens of enormous paintings hung up throughout the palace.

The receptions rooms are filled with white and gold details, with enormous doors and eye-catching chandeliers.

St James's Palace is spread across four storeys, and is a private home with specific areas that are off limits to visitors.

Princess Beatrice has lived at the royal residence for several years, having shared a flat with her sister Princess Eugenie, 32, at the palace up until late 2017.

The duo's flat reportedly boasted four bedrooms and was spread across numerous floors.

Princess Eugenie eventually left the flat in order to move into Kensington Palace with her husband, Jack Brooksbank, before the couple then set up home at Frogmore Cottage.

Jack and Eugenie tied the knot in October 2018 at St George's Chapel, and welcomed their first child, a baby son named August, in February 2021.
