Do the Love Island stars do their own hair and makeup for the final?

Love Love Island? Our Factor 50 email brings all the goss direct to your inbox

It’s been widely circulated this year that the Love Island contestants are allowed Saturdays off for the purpose of having a “down day” to relax away from cameras and to have a professional beauty technician come into the villa to fix their hair extensions and nails.

But does the Love Island budget stretch as far as hiring a professional for the final episode and crowning ceremony?

Apparently so. In fact, it seems to be the only time during the whole series when the girls don’t have to do their own makeup before appearing on camera.

We know this because 2019 finalist Amber Gill – who ultimately went on to win with then-partner Greg O’Shea – was tagged in a pre-final snap by makeup artist Gemma Wheatcroft. The selfie showed her all glammed up for the very last episode.

Amber was pictured with flawless and luminous skin, a nude lip and smokey eyeshadow – the look she appeared with on the televised ultimate episode.

“BIG UP THE QUEEN OF LOVE ISLAND… @amberrosegill. You’re a true beauty! Loved making you sparkle for the final tonight!” Gemma captioned the snap.

So will Gemma be back to help the 2021 finalists out with their beauty looks? The jury is out, as it seems the makeup artist is currently busy working with newly-confirmed Strictly Come Dancing 2021 star AJ Odudu. But we’ll be keeping an eye out for any professionals heading out to the villa!

For now, in honour of the summer of love coming to an end, we’re taking a look back at past finalists and the most glamorous beauty looks we’ve seen on screen…

Molly-Mae Hague 2019

Molly-Mae Hague became famous for her perfect top knots during her stint on Love Island – and didn’t disappoint fans in the final when she opted to show off her most glam updo of the series. Pairing it with a metallic pink dress and statement heart-shaped earrings, the blonde beauty truly won in the style and beauty stakes.

Kaz Crossley – 2018

Even though Kaz Crossley was pipped to the post by Dani Dyer, we still go all heart-eyed over her final make-up look. Pairing a bold red lipstick with slicked-back hair and plunging jumpsuit, Kaz gave off serious retro-glam vibes.

Olivia Attwood – 2017

Third place winner Olivia Attwood proved it went all-white on the night when she wowed in a white mini dress and a bouncy blow-dry that would even make Kate Middleton herself a bit jealous. With a glossy neutral lip and false lashes, Olivia placed first in our eyes.

Amber Davies – 2017

Amber Davies won Love Island 2017 with her partner Kem Cetinay. She also won our hearts with her final beauty look. After seeing Amber looking like a natural beauty for most of the series, fans loved seeing the star with bold pink eyeshadow and a voluminous blow-dry.
