Cheryl Burke, Cody Rigsby to compete on DWTS from home after COVID diagnosis
They’re still in the running for the mirrorball trophy.
Cheryl Burke and Cody Rigsby will compete on “Dancing With the Stars” from home this week while they recover from COVID-19.
“Even though my partner and I have COVID, which I still feel so bad about… we are going to still dance on Monday,” she announced on Twitter Friday, adding that she turned her living room into a ballroom.
“We will be dancing live, so make sure you tune in this Monday for something that is going down in ‘Dancing With the Stars’ history books,” she said.
The “DWTS” pro announced in a video posted to Instagram last Sunday that she tested positive for a breakthrough case of COVID-19.
“It’s so overwhelming because it’s Sunday and the show’s tomorrow. I figured I should let you guys know since I’ve been as open and as a real and as vulnerable as I could be here,” Burke posted. “I just hope I didn’t spread it. For those of you who don’t think COVID is a real thing, it’s f–king real, dude.”
Four days later, Peloton instructor Rigsby announced that he also caught the virus — for the second time in 2021.
“While I am fully vaccinated and took many precautions, following CDC guidelines, I recently tested positive for COVID-19,” the 34-year-old shared on Instagram Thursday. “To properly rest and recover as well as avoid exposing others, I will be taking a break in the coming days. I appreciate all your support and I’ll be back as soon as I am ready.”
Monday’s show will be dedicated to Britney Spears tunes, with Burke, 37, and Rigsby, 34, performing “Gimme More” from her 2007 album “Blackout.”
“Every version of Britney is iconic, and I can just tell you that I’m dancing to my favorite Britney Spears song of all time,” Rigsby said earlier this week. “I’m really, really excited to shake my tits to my favorite icon.”
