Americans lost over 138 million hours of sleep on election night

Americans lost more than 138 million hours of sleep on election night — the first act of what has become the nail-biter 2020 presidential race.

The findings were produced by Oura ring, a wearable health-tracking device, according to a blog post from the company on Thursday.

The election also produced heart rates that were “much higher than the predicted average we’d expect for a ‘normal’ Tuesday” the company reported. Oura ring also found that American patterns had normalized by Wednesday evening.

The device, which is worn on the finger, measures blood flow, temperature and other metrics, with data that is then displayed on a smartphone app. The ring is worn by tens of thousands of American users from which the data is produced.

The ring also has a cult celebrity following. Prince Harry is known to wear one and Will Smith and Shaquille O’Neal are both investors, according to Bloomberg.
