Aldi replaces Kevin the Carrot in new Christmas advert with Ebanana Scrooge

Christmas adverts seem to get bigger and better each year, as they become an essential part of kickstarting the festive season.

As we enter the run up to Christmas, many retailers have began releasing festive adverts.

Brands such as Marks and Spencer and Boots have already revealed their Christmas campaigns, and the highly anticipated John Lewis Christmas ad has even been released early this year.

Next up on the list is supermarket giant Aldi, who took to social media earlier this week to tease its upcoming Christmas advert.

Aldi's Christmas campaign usually stars animated vegetable Kevin the Carrot, however the teasers show that the beloved character has been axed for this year's advert.

New animated character Ebanana Scrooge takes centre stage in the 2021 ad, with the 20-second teaser clip showing the small yellow banana patently waiting for Father Christmas.

The new character is seen snuggled up next to a mince pie in front of a cosy log fire on Christmas Eve, before a huge hand appears and opts to take the mince pie instead of Ebanana.

Ebanana then shouts: "Santa, wait…why didn't he take me?"

As the teaser clip comes to an end, Ebanana then angrily exclaims: "I hate Christmas", leaving the rest of the story to unfold when the full ad is released on 11 November.

The introduction of Ebanana Scrooge marks the end of Kevin the Carrot's five year stint as the star of Aldi's Christmas campaign.

Over the past years the character has became a firm favourite amongst shoppers, prompting plush toys and other merchandise to be released.

Each year the plush versions of Kevin the Carrot and his family sell out immediately, with shoppers eagerly hunting them down.

While Aldi have jokingly responded to questions concerning Kevin's absence on Twitter, many fans are unimpressed with the axing of the popular character.

One shopper wrote: "Noooooooo! Christmas won't be Christmas without Kevin the carrot".

As another added: "Surely you can't have an Aldi Christmas without Kevin The Carrot #KevinTheCarrot".

However, it's not yet known whether Kevin has been axed completely, and viewers will have to wait to find our the characters fate when the full advert is released later this month.
