Lakeside’s Summer Scream returns — tickets on sale today
Denver Film’s signature fundraiser, Summer Scream, will return to historic Lakeside Amusement Park on Aug. 24 with a ’90s-themed immersive experience, organizers said Thursday.
The announcement beats last year’s by nearly two months — a hint of the enthusiasm for this year’s event. Summer Scream takes over Lakeside Amusement Park, Denver’s second-oldest theme park behind Elitch Gardens, and closes it to the public while providing food, alcohol and unlimited rides on classic theme park attractions.
Four-pack tickets for this year’s 21-and-up fundraiser are on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 11, for $225, or $56.25 per person. Individual tickets will go on sale at a later for $75 each. Both are available on denverfilm.org.
This year’s ’90s theme will again be immersive, organizers said.
“To quote (‘Saved by the Bell’ character) Jesse Spano, ‘We’re so excited, we’re so excited!’ to be back making Summer Scream the best thing going in the dog days of August,” said Chris Getzen who, along with Andrew Novick will serve as immersive creators for this year’s event, in a press statement.
“This year, you’ll be able to see live performances, comedy, music, magic, hear local history, and even see pro-wrestling that will happen no place else,” he said. “You can tell your parents you’re staying at a friends’ to watch The Real World. Just be sure to return those videotapes before you come!”
The 2022 event expanded over previous years with a boardwalk-style throwback theme and was a sold-out success, organizers said, citing the biggest-yet attendance in the event’s 11-year history, and arriving after a two-year break.
Summer Scream returns to Lakeside, at 4601 Sheridan Blvd., from 6 to 11 p.m. on Aug. 24.
