First Lady Jill Biden Wore Polka Dots & Pearls For the Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony
While we are anxiously awaiting for the Olympics’ Opening Ceremony to air stateside tonight on TV, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden was among the crowd watching it live and in person in Tokyo. And she looked ah-mazing! FLOTUS on point, y’all. Biden looked both feminine and fierce in a white dress with polka dots, black slingback high-heels with pointy toes, and pearl necklaces and bracelet. Per COVID protocol, she also donned a face mask, and of course it was navy blue with an American flag to show support for Team USA.
The First Lady is representing the United States at the Olympics and was one of many world leaders who were greeted by Japanese Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace before the opening ceremony began. Dr. Biden is on her first international trip without her husband, President Joe Biden, since he was inaugurated in January 2021. Because of the pandemic, the U.S. delegation attending the Olympics is much smaller than usual and includes only Biden and Raymond Greene, the charge d’affaires ad interim (i.e. the temporary diplomatic figure) at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo.
Though COVID cases are rising in Tokyo, with infections both inside and outside the Olympic Village, the United States felt it was important for Biden to stay at the Olympic games.
“There’s been no change, [Jill Biden is] still planning on attending the games,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said, per CNN, adding, “The President, the first lady felt it was important to have the delegation lead at the highest level. So, she is looking forward to continuing her travels.”
Jill Biden’s made a few splashes with her fashion as First Lady already, and her Olympics look could be the next iteration of her sweet-and-sensible style to sell out fast. While FLOTUS has yet to drop the deets on these exact items exactly, we found some lookalike versions of her polka dot dress, slingback heels, and pearl strands that are too good to pass up if you’re digging her stylish Olympics look.
