3sixteen SS21 Collection Presents a Tangible Sense of Comfort

3sixteen has unveiled it Spring/Summer 2021 collection and this time, the fashion brand is celebrating the beauty of fabric. The collection, created during the uncertain conditions of the global pandemic aims to embody the new norm for fashion with the aim to share a tangible sense of comfort.

SS21 hedges on the theme of comfortable luxury with hand feel and textile performance at the center of the collection. This season, 3sixteen has stepped away from prints, opting to focuson texture. Texture has been transformed into pattern greatly inspired by Abstract Expressionist painters such as Franz Kline and Robert Motherwell.

Specifically with this collection 3sixteen primarily draws inspiration from the mid-1970s Korean minimalist art movement, Dansaekwha, translated to monochrome painting. Pieces of work featured in this era often see a manipulation of paint layered upon the canvas. This collection highlights the technique through its tactile hand of a tonal floral jacquard juxtaposed with the soft drape of a cotton, linen, tencel blend. On the topic of contrasts, the heavy, durable weight of a herringbone twill makes for an unexpected pairing when melded together with the breezy lightness of the printed cotton.

New silhouettes are introduced in SS21 and include pieces such as the Mac Coat, which is the brand’s first attempt at longer spring outerwear, modeled after the traditional English trenchcoat. The Poncho is fit for the functional consumer and is sewn out of water repllant cotton, protecting the wearer through uncertain spring weather. The Drawstring Pant is a great addition to the stay-at-home aesthetic, featuring a generous top block, aggressive taper, comfortable elastic waist and a shorter-than-usual inseam. The pant transitions well from at-home to the streets, similar to other pieces such as the band collar workshirt.
