Rylan Clark urged to take a year off work after breakdown over marriage split

Rylan Clark has reportedly been urged to "take a year off work" after suffering from a breakdown on Radio 2 following the demise of his marriage.

Back in June, the presenter confirmed his marriage to Dan Neal was over, but the couple were said to be working on salvaging their relationship. However, reports last month revealed they were over for good.

Now, it's been reported that concerns were raised over the former X Factor star's emotional well-being after breaking down into tears as a song played during his BBC Radio 2 show.

This allegedly prompted producers to call a crisis meeting to discuss the best course of action to ensure the 32 year old felt "supported and happy".

"When he returned to work, everyone supported him, but when he broke down, people were concerned he'd come back too fast," a source told The Sun.

Rylan took time away from his Radio 2 show in May this year and returned in September.

"One of the BBC's top brass was at the meeting. They even suggested he take a year's break to focus on himself," the source continued.

"Rylan's one of the BBC's favourite stars. Ultimately, they want Rylan to feel supported and happy," it was added.

OK! has contacted a representative for Rylan and the BBC for further comment.

After dealing with his marital woes, Rylan made his comeback to radio on Saturday 4 September.

His return to work came after he admitted he was in a "bad place" following the separation from Dan.

Speaking to The Sun in June, Rylan explained: "Following reports about Dan and I spending time apart, I feel have to speak out as the way it is being reported is unfair.

"I have made a number of mistakes which I deeply regret and have inevitably led to the breakdown of our marriage."

He added: "I have taken time away from work as I am not in a good place at the moment and am seeking help.

"I am trying to take each day at a time and would like to say thank you to everyone for their support and for respecting our privacy at this time."

He and Dan tied the knot in 2015, and Dan is dad to a 20 year old son called Cameron. The couple met when Dan was a contestant on Big Brother in 2013.
