Martin Amis dies aged 73 after acclaimed London Fields author battled cancer
British author Martin Amis has died at the age of 73 after battling esophageal cancer, his wife, fellow writer Isabel Fonseca, has confirmed.
He died on Friday at his home in Lake Worth, Florida.
Martin rose to fame for his critically acclaimed work in the 1980s and 90s.
He published 15 novels throughout his career as an author, and is best known for his London trilogy of novels.
The trilogy is comprised of ‘Money: A Suicide Note’ (1985), ‘London Fields’ (1990) and ‘The Information’ (1995).
Martin’s final novel before his death was entitled Inside Story, and was published in 2020.
The publication was a “novelised autobiography” that looked at the author’s friendship with Christopher Hitchens, who died of the same type of cancer in 2011.
Martin was also the son of a famous writer, Kingsley Amis, who died in 1995.
The author admitted that his father’s successful career was a blessing and a curse, while also admitting he would have been “in a very different position” in his life if Kingsley had been a school teacher.

Martin only read comic books before his stepmother, novelist Elizabeth Jane Howard, encouraged him to read Jane Austen books.
He went on to study at Exeter College, Oxford, where he graduated with a degree in English in 1971.
Martin’s first novel was The Rachel Papers, which he penned in 1973.
His first wife was Antonia Phillips, whom he married in 1984, and they welcomed two sons, Louis and Jacob.
Following his divorce from Antonia, Martin married Uruguayan American writer Isabel Fonseca in 1998.
The couple lived together in Uruguay for two-and-a half years, alongside their two young daughters.
They eventually moved back to Britain in September 2006.
Martin became a grandfather in 2008, when his daughter Delilah gave birth to a son.
