Loose Women star Nadia says having baby saved her from alcohol death
Nadia Sawalha has claimed that if she had not got pregnant in 2002 she and her husband would be dead from alcohol abuse.
The Loose Women star 54, said she was a party animal and hubby Mark Adderley was an alcoholic when she learned she was expecting older daughter Maddie, 16.
Nadia said she was “emotionally and physically unwell” and “hadn’t been dealing with grief” when she met TV producer Mark around four years after her first husband Justin Mildwater committed suicide in 1997.
“There was a lot of drink and a lot of late nights,” she said.
Nadia was speaking to Mark, who is now teetotal, in her podcast, How to Stay Married (So Far).
The couple, who are writing a play, also have another daughter, 11-year-old Kiki-Bee.
She said: “Getting together with you and getting pregnant made me go: ‘Jesus Christ, all that’s gone before has to go’.
“I was such a different person since being pregnant with Maddie. And I think that was the beginning of us saving our lives.
"We probably would have died. We would have gone crazy on the alcohol.”
She added: “I had to stop drinking first. I am a heavy drinker but I am not an alcoholic. Mark would drink so much it was worrying.”
