Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road’ Breaks Billboard Hot 100 Record For Hip-Hop Track
Lil Nas X‘s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, has topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a Hip-Hop track record of 13 weeks.
According to Billboard, the track passes three hip-hop songs that led for 12 weeks each: “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth (2015); “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyed Peas (2009); and “Lose Yourself” by Eminem (2002-03).
The catchy lil’ ditty is just the 12th in the chart’s history to reign for 13 weeks. The last single to spend at least that many weeks atop the chart was Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee‘s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, which spent a record-tying 16 weeks on top in 2017.
“Old Town Road” also leads the Streaming Songs chart for a 13th week, with 88.7 million U.S. streams, down 3%, in the week ending June 27, according to Nielsen Music.
Lil Nas X also debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart with his debut EP 7. The eight-track EP includes his recent hit single “Old Town Road,” both in its original form and the Billy Ray Cyrus-featured version.
