Kate Middleton has shared her appreciation for British tennis star Emma Raducanu after she made history by winning her US open semi-finals in straight sets, securing her place in her first ever major final and a minimum prize of $1.25 million.

The Duchess of Cambridge tweeted her congratulations to Emma after the amazing feat.

She said: “What an incredible achievement at this year's #USOpen @EmmaRaducanu! We will all be rooting for you tomorrow. Wishing you the best of luck! C.”

Numerous other well-known faces joined Kate in sharing their well wishes, including Manchester United player Marcus Rashford.

He tweeted: “Congrats Emma Raducanu what an achievement already!! Good luck this weekend we're all be cheering you on back home.”

Gary Lineker added: “What an extraordinary achievement. A US Open final at 18 years old and a qualifier to boot. Wow! Well played.”

Emma burst onto the tennis scene just two months ago at Wimbledon and while she ranks 361st in the world, she now stands on the edge of one of the greatest sporting achievements of all-time.

Speaking to the Daily Mail about her victory, Emma said: “Honestly the time here in New York has gone so fast. I've just been taking care of each day and three weeks later I'm in final. I can't actually believe it.

“Today I wasn't thinking about anyone else except for myself. While I have the moment I want to thank my team and the LTA and everyone at home for all their support.

“Since I've been here from the first round of the quallies I've had unbelievable support.”

Boris Johnson, Liam Gallagher and even Piers Morgan all congratulated Emma on her achievement after defeating seventeeth seed Maria Sakkari 6-1, 6-4 in just 84 minutes.

Emma is the first British woman to reach the US open finals since Virgina Wade in 1968 and the first British woman to reach a Grand Slam final in 44 years.

Virgina Wade said of Emma: “She withstood everything and it seems Emma just seems to reduce her opponents to nothing, it's incredible.

“She's so consistent herself and she keeps coming up with answers and she serves so well and she just completely negates their games.”
