As she continues to help her husband Derek Draper gradually get better after his horrendous battle with Coronavirus, Kate Garraway has revealed she seeks solace in her garden.

The mum-of-two, who previously shared a hilarious moment of when she discovered Derek could smell again, said she considers her garden to be her "happy place" and loves to spend time outside.

The 54 year old took to her Instagram to post a beautiful picture of herself sat in her favourite place.

In the snap, Kate can be seen wearing a flower garland on her head, as she smiles at the camera and appears to be at peace in the outdoors.

She penned: "Happy @gardendayuk! My garden is definitely my happy place & even though it's not big or fancy I love being out there even if the weather isn't perfect, because just being outside listening to the rain fall and the wind blow through the leaves is like therapy for me."

The Good Morning Britain host went on to share her excitement for her spouse to be able to join her outside once he is strong enough.

Kate continued: "I can't wait for Derek to get stronger so can get him outside too as know it'll be good for him.

"Admittedly he may not want to wear a gorgeous blossom crown like me! But I am loving it & going to wear it all day to celebrate #gardendayUK.

"I would love to hear how you are celebrating your outside space today & what it means to you generally so do share! #thepowerofhope," she concluded.

Kate's post comes after she was overcome with emotion during an appearace on Lorraine after she revealed Derek had wished her a happy birthday.

As she spoke about his recovery, she explained: "At the moment, the family and I are looking at lots of different things with Derek. He's home, we can hug him, that's a miracle in itself.

The former GMTV presenter, who spoke about the moment she first saw "unrecognisable Derek, continued: "So I came in this morning and I said, 'Right I'm all ready', my mum and my dad were there and of course the nurses are there, I said, 'I'm off to Lorraine now, is there anything you want to say to me?' And he said, 'Oh, happy birthday'."

Lorraine replied: "Wow, that's huge," with Kate responding: "I know, it makes me feel a bit emotional actually, but it's happy tears, I won't look at you for a minute," before looking down.

She added: "Not to be technical about it, I sound like I'm analysing everything but that is massive.

"It's wonderful that he says happy birthday because that's what I want to hear but also, we're looking for things he can hold.
