Ed Sheeran ballooned to 15st with awful diet but changed before babys birth

Ed Sheeran has revealed he gained 15 stone when he quit touring as he binged on fried foods and drank alcohol "every single day".

The 30 year old, whose baby daughter Lyra recently tested positive with Covid-19, explained that he "ballooned' after ditching healthy foods for wine, beer and chicken wings and stopped exercising completely.

However, three months before his baby girl was born in October 2020, Ed decided to change his lifestyle as he was "determined" to drive wife Cherry Seaborn to the hospital.

“Since becoming a dad I’ve become quite clean-living. But I think actually taking time off and not being on tour was the worst thing for my health because I would drink every single day," he explained.

Ed continued to tell The Sun: “I stopped three months before Lyra was born because I was determined I was going to be the person to drive my wife to the hospital. I was 15-and-a-half stone at my peak and I think I’m 10-and-a-half now – I was big, it really showed.

"I had a 36 waist — now I’m down to 28.

“I always knew I was big, but I knew why I was big too – I loved chicken wings, wine, beer, and I never exercised."

The Shape Of You hitmaker hasn't completely cut out the foods and drinks he loves, but admitted he now limits himself to one bottle of wine as opposed to two.

Ed, who was recently announced to deliver a CBeebies bedtime story, said that the "penny dropped" when Cherry was pregnant and explained that his daughter was his "biggest motivation" to detoxing.

The singer went on to speak out on the lonely life he led while on tour as a solo artist as he often went to pubs and nightclubs on his own.

"I was literally going out on my own, not knowing anyone, walking into a bar, and seeing where the night took me," he shared.

He also found himself in "dangerous situations" and shared how thankful he is that nothing bad ever actually happened to him.

Robbie Williams has been a source of great comfort and help to him over the past years as he could relate to the lonely lifestyle of the solo career.

He said: "I think being a solo artist you don’t have the band to lean on so you end up leaning on different things."

Ed added that Robbie, 47, continues to check in on him today.
