Deborah James says her lucky streak continues as she defies odds to attend Ascot

Deborah James has praised her “winning streak” as she attended the races at Ascot.

The podcast host, 40, said that she had to “pinch herself” after she managed to spend a day at the races months after announcing thatshe was receiving end-of-life care for bowel cancer.

The campaigner, who’s raised over £6.5million for charity over recent weeks, beamed as she donned a navy and white polka dot dress for a day out at Royal Ascot with her brother Benjamin James and his fiancee Claire Hall.

Deborah explained what the day meant to her in the caption of a few photos from the day posted to Instagram.

The mum of two wrote: “Yesterday was really special as with a lot of effort and help I actually made it to @ascotracecourse once again.

“I honestly have to pinch myself that I’ve been well enough each day to do something like this. Another favourite I’d had in mind and a fab milestone to say ‘ain’t dead yet!’

“Obviously like most haven’t been for a while due to covid, but so nice to be back and thank you to @ascotracecourse for making the whole experience for me and my brother just seamless and achievable for me. Memories made, but most importantly I got 3 wins in a row and am still bouncing off the ceiling from them still!!!”

She then went on to speak about her “stressful” feelings towards not knowing how long she has left to live, writing: “I find myself living in limbo land, not really knowing what the future holds and for how long.

"It’s a very stressful and uncertain place to be because when I was discharged from hospital over a month ago I was given days, maybe a week to live. And I felt like it.

“But as we all know life doesn’t go according to plan, so I’m just grateful for whatever extra time, the powers that be have decided to grant me. So despite the unnerving tears, I look at the sunshine, smile, and think, wow, life is a funny thing isn’t it!! Better enjoy it!”

Although Deborah enjoyed her day at Ascot, several days earlier she shared an insight into how difficult she's finding it to get dressed and ready for outings.

Sharing snaps of her wearing a gorgeous grey and black satin ensemble, and her hair styled into a stunning blow dry complete with a striking headband, the TV star explained that she's "exhausted" but excited to enjoy as many special days out as possible.

"Another day brings another excuse to spend half of it exhausting myself getting dressed up to go to one of my favourite places!!!! @glyndebourne to watch #laboheme – But totally worth it," the star told her followers.

"Thank you @glyndebourne for being so lovely and welcoming tonight -doing all this in a wheelchair is certainly a new challenge to learn!"

Sharing details about her outfit, Deborah went on to admit: "But be under no illusion! I’m knackered!

"I’ve worked out it takes me longer to get ready and organised to go than the time I actually last anywhere!! Getting dressed is tiring, getting meds organised is tiring, the extra moving, the travel, the wondering what mood your stomach is in – it’s all real!

"But then the feeling of making it to something you didn’t think possible, having put make up on, donning new shoes (that finally arrived in the right size for massively swollen feet!), with the sunshine smiling – well then it’s all worth it!

"It’s a kind of cheeky “still living whilst dying” two fingers up to it all!!" the brave beauty added.
